Zinaida's project titled Without Women that was highlighted in her solo pavilion and was presented as a Ukrainian Official Collateral Event at 2022 Venice Biennale. The exhibition’s curator, Dallas Contemporary Executive Director Peter Doroshenko, introduced Zinaida as “a national cultural figure for Ukraine. Over the last fifteen years, she has summarized, documented and interpreted contemporary Ukrainian society through her work. Zinaida’s works have become an important and seminal influence for all the contemporary Ukrainian artists.” Without Women is a meditative video work that follows male shepherds as they take the livestock to the mountains and live without women for months. The photography that has not been shown before are the old household utensils and tools used in these mountain villages for generations that the artist collected. To complement this project where the women are absent but the feminine is present, are two images from a research project on Ukrainian bridal crowns from the same region.
Sapar Contemporary premiered a new series, SHE, at the NADA Miami art fair in 2022. SHE which Zinaida began in 2021 under the lockdown and finished after her return to Kyiv in June 2022, under the bombing and constant electricity and internet shut downs. SHE is an image of a woman wearing a costume that is an amalgamation of Ukrainian, Greek, Berber, Arabic, Bulgarian, Jewish costumes, symbolizing an eternal feminine and divine feminine, an image of woman facing her own and historical destiny. She is both ancient and modern, she real and myth.
